Kevin and I have been living under a rock because just a couple of weekends ago, we visited Tipico for the very first time. The atmosphere was welcoming, with the perfect vibes to fit into the Elmwood Avenue scene. If you are not familiar with Elmwood, think of an artsy, hipster scene with an organic feel. So now that I have set the tone, let me walk you through this on brand coffee shop and cafe. There is a patio in the front that I am sure is packed with people when the Buffalo weather is treating us right, but seeing as it was a snowy January morning, we opted to sit inside. There is a cute wall with plants, which if you know me, you know that is enough for me to fall in love with the place, those seats were taken (obvi), so we sat near the counter, which was also great.
Fun fact, Tipico’s roasts their own coffee, taking great pride and dedication into creating the perfect blends. To add to that, they also provide a subscription called the “Tipico Coffee Club.” It’s customized to your specifications from choices that include, espresso, blends or single origin beans; from there you can decide how often you want your beans shipped right to your front door (or even office).
Now let’s get into the good stuff…their menu!! To be honest, I had a very hard time choosing what I wanted to eat. EVERYTHING sounded and looked amazing but ultimately, I went with the Breakfast Empanadas, which is described as a portable burrito filled with scrambled eggs, cheese and sweet potato, I also opted to add in chorizo with chipotle mayo on the side. It’s been a couple of weeks and I still think about how delicious this breakfast was. For my drink choice I had a cortado, espresso mixed with a roughly equal amount of warm milk, and it was so good. Their coffee is robust and delicious, truly the perfect drink for a cold winter morning. For Kevin’s choices he had the breakfast burrito, which included seasoned eggs, cheddar, roasted sweet potatoes, cilantro corn salsa, black bean spread all served up warm in a flour tortilla. He loved it, and I can also say it was delicious because I had to steal a bite. For his coffee choice he had the Americano…I know that may sound boring, but Tipico’s roast is just THAT good. The menu had other amazing options including the “Dopest Dough Bagels,” a breakfast sandwich and then various lunch items, such as, a southwestern lentil salad and both tofu and pork empanadas, just to name a few. On the way out I also grabbed a chocolate chip cookie, and blueberry lemon curd overnight oats, both exceeded my expectations, and I would drive to Buffalo in a snowstorm to have those overnight oats again. In terms of pricing, you can expect your bill to be about average.
To wrap up, Tipico was a great spot to start our day and if you are tempted to go try it out, just do it, you won’t regret it. For menu ordering or to get more information check out their website at www.tipicocoffee.com.
